Terms of Use

By creating an account or using SchoolTransit you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. Version 2026-10-21.

1. What SchoolTransit does

SchoolTransit connects schools, drivers and parents so children get to school and back safely: enrolment and driver assignment, live GPS trip monitoring with traffic-aware routing, pickup/dropoff alerts, issue reporting, and payment record-keeping. SchoolTransit provides the platform; each school's admin runs day-to-day transport for that school, including emergency backup pickups where the school offers them.

2. Roles & eligibility

  • Parents/guardians enrol their own children and consent to the processing of each child's data, including live location during trips.
  • Drivers must hold the licences and insurance Kenyan law requires for school transport, keep their vehicle roadworthy, and stream accurate GPS while trips are active.
  • School admins are provisioned by SchoolTransit, assign children to drivers, confirm parental consent before enrolling a child, and handle erasure and access requests for the records they manage.

You must be at least 18 years old to hold an account, and you are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential.

3. Acceptable use

  • Use live tracking only for the safety of children in your care — never to follow, harass or surveil any person.
  • Keep children's data confidential: do not copy, screenshot-share or republish rider details, locations or schedules outside the service.
  • Drivers: stream from your own device, log genuine issues promptly, and never mark a pickup or dropoff you did not perform.
  • Do not attempt to access accounts, children, trips or payments that are not assigned to you, or to disrupt the service.

We may suspend accounts that breach these rules or the law, after notice where reasonable.

4. Data protection duties

Everyone on the platform shares responsibility under Kenya's Data Protection Act, 2019. SchoolTransit acts as Data Controller for the platform; schools and drivers act as independent controllers for the transport they operate, and must use personal data only for safe school transport, keep it confidential, and delete or return it when the transport relationship ends.

Schools must obtain and record parental/guardian consent before enrolling a child, honour withdrawals promptly, and report any suspected personal data breach to privacy@schooltransit.app without delay. See the Privacy Policy for retention periods and data-subject rights.

5. Payments

Parents pay drivers directly on terms the driver sets; drivers pay the school a monthly subscription per assigned child (default Ksh 100 — each school's admin sets the final rate and publishes payment details). SchoolTransit keeps records of these payments for reconciliation; it is not a party to the payment itself. See Pricing.

6. Availability & liability

Live maps, routing and GPS depend on your device, network connection and third-party services (Google Maps, Firebase). We work hard to keep the service reliable but cannot guarantee uninterrupted tracking. To the maximum extent allowed by Kenyan law, SchoolTransit is not liable for indirect losses arising from GPS inaccuracy, network outages or third-party failures — but nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury or fraud caused by our negligence, or for breaches of data-protection law.

7. Ending your account

You may delete your account at any time from your portal's Privacy tab, which erases your profile, trip data and notifications as described in the Privacy Policy (financial records are kept as the law requires). We may close accounts that breach these terms. Sections 4 and 6 survive termination.

8. Governing law & contact

These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya. Please raise any dispute with us first at privacy@schooltransit.app or +254 708 845 848 — most issues are resolved with a conversation.
